Blog 6: English Language Challenges
Hi everyone, I hope you had a good long weekend :)
Today is your last blog post! Congratulations you made it hahaha! So today you are going to talk about your experience learning English at university and the use of blogs.
Please, please be honest so we can know how to improve as teachers and as an English Program.
During the course, I tried to promote the use of English 100% of the time and I also made sure to practice the four skills: listening, writing, reading, and speaking.
Regarding the content of the class, as you noticed, we always saw things that had important social or political content. This is because for me it is important to show students a different reality and hopefully so you can realize that changing reality is not only possible, but necessary.
We read various writers like Edwidge Danticat, Christian Campbell, and Michelle Cliff. I hope you enjoyed reading them.
An important point I want to make is that English is not just USA or England. That's why in class we read texts from Jamaica or Barbados where English is spoken.
Remember that practice makes perfect and therefore it is very important that you continue practicing English outside of class. There are many ways to do this: listening to music in English, watching movies and series in English with subtitles in English, and reading in English.

> What comments can you make about your experience learning English at university? What about the use of blogs?

Hi teacher! I really like that you show us different social and political realities, and not just focus on USA or England, reading differents writters with differents perspectives, strong perspectives of their own realities.
ResponderEliminarHi teacher i think reading all these writters was really interesting and a special way to learn english not just focussing in grammar, and also complementing with al those nteresting subjects and social contents
ResponderEliminarI really liked the way to learn English in this program, read authors of different places of the world, and watch interviews of famous writers and singers was a good method to learn a new language.

ResponderEliminarThank Benjamin for all the blogs and stuff, it has been fun and rewarding :)
ResponderEliminarHi teacher, it's been always welcome and thankful a social and political perspective of the classes we have, to me is no sense to learn and share knowledge without a intention of make this world better and go outside of the hegemonic views, so i'm very glad for that.
ResponderEliminarHi teacher. The fact that we read texts out from USA or England susprised me. I always have the doubt that how was English from other countries.. I wonder why they are poorly consider in the most of class programs that I have known.
ResponderEliminarHi teacher! Thank you for your classes, I really could saw the practice of the four skills in a funny and interesting way. Also, I think that it was very important -and I really loved- that we could have socialpolitical content there :)
